The short version
Displace does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. Everything stays on your Mac.
What data Displace collects
Displace runs entirely on your device. It does not phone home, track usage, or send analytics. Your display configurations are stored locally on your Mac and are never transmitted anywhere.
License activation
When you activate a trial or enter a license key, Displace contacts our server to validate the key and register your device. This request includes:
- Your activation code
- A hashed machine identifier (derived from your Mac's hardware, not reversible)
This data is used solely for license validation and device count enforcement (up to 3 Macs per license). We do not use it for tracking or marketing.
If you start a free trial, you provide your email address to receive the activation code. Your email is stored only for license management and is never shared with third parties or used for marketing.
Bug reports
If you choose to submit a bug report from within the app, the following data is sent to our server to help diagnose the issue:
- App version and macOS version
- Number of connected displays and their names
- A hashed machine identifier (same as license activation)
- Your active display configuration
- Recent application logs
- Contact email, if you provide one
Bug reports are submitted only when you explicitly choose to send one. They are stored for 90 days and then automatically deleted. This data is used solely for debugging and is never shared with third parties.
Payments
Payments are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle handles your payment information. We never see or store your credit card details. Refer to Paddle's privacy policy for details on how they handle payment data.
